This single-storey home on rural land at Cambewarra is long and low, and it is planned so that almost every room looks out across the paddocks to the range beyond.

From the approach the building reads as one dark horizontal band. Charcoal vertical board cladding sits under a shallow skillion roof with a deep overhang, and a natural stone wall in mixed greys and tans runs along the elevation. An exposed aggregate path with stone insets leads to an oversized timber pivot door.

That stone wall is the organising idea, and it carries straight through the glass from outside to in. Indoors it becomes the backdrop to the living room, set against polished concrete floors, black-framed floor-to-ceiling glazing and a band of highlight windows above.

The kitchen sits behind a long island fronted in timber battens, with white benchtops and white overhead cabinetry. In place of a splashback there is a window, so the cook looks straight out at the paddocks. A second, darker kitchen sits behind it in black cabinetry with timber.

Living, dining and a games area run in a line along the glazing, all of them sharing the same outlook.

Outside, the pool sits between the house and the paddocks, edged in pale large-format paving and frameless glass fencing, with a pebble bed and lawn beyond and the stone wall returning to close off one end.

The bathrooms are finished in large-format concrete-look tiles, with a freestanding bath at the window and twin basins on a fluted timber vanity beneath oval mirrors and slim vertical wall lights.
